The Power We Hold as Beauty & Wellness Professionals

Every once in a while, I feel it’s so important to pause and reflect on the quiet power we hold in this industry.

Today I was listening in on a group call where a young woman shared that she hasn’t hugged another human being in months. She doesn’t live near her family, and most of her friends are far away. Hearing the pain in her voice reminded me of something I tell colleagues often: sometimes, we are the only person who physically touches our clients.

Think about that for a moment. What we do isn’t “just” about lashes, hair, facials, massage, nails, or treatments. It’s about connection. It’s about presence. It’s about love. Our hands, our hearts, and our spaces can be the safe place where someone feels seen, heard, and cared for. That’s not small—it’s everything.

I was also reminded of this today when a client reached out to let me know she has been re-diagnosed with cancer and will be undergoing more treatment. We talked about contraindications and rescheduling, of course, but what really stayed with me was her courage. My to-do list next week isn’t just about business—it includes picking up a card to send her, to let her know she’s not alone, to cheer her on, and to remind her she’s thought of and loved.

This is the work we do. Yes, it’s beauty or massage. Yes, it’s wellness. But deeper than that—it’s human connection. And in a world where so many feel isolated and lonely, we have a gift. We have the opportunity to touch lives in ways that go far beyond the treatment room.

So today, I just want to encourage you:
